The City of Dearborn is launching a new, citywide program in April, celebrating arts in the community. “Dearborn Arts Month” will bring together artists, businesses, local colleges and the Dearborn Symphony to create, exhibit, entertain and educate.

April 1-7
The month begins with “Gallery Rally” at nine locations across the city, including: Padzieski Gallery (Ford Community & Performing Arts Center); Arab American National Museum – Museum; Artspace; Green Brain Comics; Rotunda Gallery (Centennial Library); Sisson Gallery (Henry Ford College); Berkowitz Gallery (University of Michigan-Dearborn); The Glass Academy; Art for the Spirit (Beaumont Oakwood Hospital). Installations include work from local, regional and national artists and noteworthy collections.

Gallery Rally Week wraps up on April 7 with the award-winning Dearborn Symphony presenting a “Cartoons and Comics” POPS concert featuring favorites from classic cartoons, movie scores and video games, with added surprises. Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance are available at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center Box Office.

Throughout the Month
A number of local businesses are promoting art in Dearborn by hosting artists in their establishments during April. The Business in the Arts-Artists in Action program provides an opportunity to observe and interact with artists working in a variety of mediums including oil and water color painting, performing music and rug hooking.

On April 19, the Youth Arts Festival will take place at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center. Hundreds of students will participate in the citywide art exhibit that opens at 4 p.m. and collage concert at 7 p.m., offering a fast paced variety show of vocal, instrumental and theater performances. All are welcome, admission is free.

Finally, the annual Mayor’s Arts Awards on April 26 at 7 p.m. provides an opportunity to learn more about and celebrate individuals and businesses that promote and support the arts. Admission is free to attend this event at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center.

Details on April Arts Dearborn opportunities are included in a special calendar available after March 25 online on the April “Arts Dearborn” Facebook page. Printed copies of the calendar are available at Dearborn Public Library locations, the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, participating art galleries and a variety of local businesses. To request a printed calendar, contact the Dearborn Community Fund by phone at 313-943-5478 or email dearborncommunityfund@ci.dearborn.mi.us.
