This year’s Argus Museum/Argus Collectors Group (ACG) Conference is one you won’t want to miss - especially since most of the events are free and open to all!
The conference starts Thursday evening, October 12th, from 6-8 p.m. with the opening photography exhibition, “Washtenaw through the Lens” featuring work by Ann Arbor Women Artists Association (AAWAA) photographers. Meet the artists, view their work, enjoy food and beverages and welcome Argus Museum members visiting from places around the country and Canada.
Friday’s events include special-hours open house to view “The Journey in a Day: 200 Years of Student Life at the University of Michigan 1817-2017” exhibit at the Museum on Main Street. A rare opportunity to tour of the Argus Building II is also scheduled for Friday – currently a University of Michigan building that is normally closed to the public. Argus designed and manufactured equipment for the WWII effort in the building. Friday’s dinner, hosted by ACG members, will be held in the lobby of the Argus I Building – there is no charge for the meal but donations are encouraged. Following dinner, Martin Magid will present “Highlights and Delights of the History of Photography”.
Saturday is a big day for the conference and includes morning presentations and lunch with former Argus employees and their families. Participants will then head to the Michigan Military Technical and Historical Society (MMT&HS) Museum. (Car-pooling will be available). The evening will include the opening of the Argus Museum-loaned special exhibit, “Argus Eyes for Victory”, dinner, awards, an auction and a presentation given by Mike Reitsma about his research and the exhibit, titled, "Argus Eyes for Victory - WWII at the Argus Camera Factory in Ann Arbor."
Sunday’s event, the Vintage Argus Roadshow & Swap Meet, will be back at the Argus Museum - everyone is invited to bring your Argus camera, or other Argus product, for a free appraisal by Argus experts from around the Country and Canada! You can also swap and deal and get great finds on all things Argus! So, join us – even if you’re just curious - and tell your friends and neighbors about our Sunday at the Museum event.
You can find out more about the conference and check updates on the Argus Museum’s Facebook page and at: http://washtenawhistory.org/index.php?section=sites&content=argus_museum .
